Education and Experience

  • BS in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana

  • Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore

  • PhD in Sociology from Texas Woman’s University

Dr. Mia is extensively knowledgeable in sex and couples therapy. Specifically in addressing issues related to sexual and relationship minorities such as Polyamorous, Kink/BDSM/LGBTQIA+ communities

Dr. Mia has experience providing clinical therapy to a variety of individuals in various settings within inpatient and outpatient settings.

Dr. Mia has worked as a faculty member at both Texas Woman’s University and the University of Texas Arlington teaching Diversity, African-American studies, and Clinical Therapy courses.

 

Research

Dr. Mia is committed to contributing to the knowledge that addresses the disparities in seeking mental health services among people of color and the socioeconomically disadvantaged. Her past research includes examining the relationship between the strong Black woman archetype and mental health help-seeking behaviors of Black women.
